Meet Your Doula

Brittany O'Grady
Certified Labor Doula, ProDoula
Certified Postpartum and Infant Care Doula, ProDoula

Born and raised in NYC, I moved down south in 2013. I fell in love with the mountains and the slower, calmer way of life. When we decided to start trying for a baby, I thought it would be easy peasy. Isn’t that what it’s like for everyone?

Having a miscarriage as my first pregnancy was terrifying. I was filled with fear that I was unable to carry a baby. I thought there was something wrong with me. When I got pregnant for the second time, with my daughter, I was riddled with anxiety for my entire pregnancy.

That debilitating anxiety did not change when I got pregnant with my son. Since both my children were born during COVID and with hospital restrictions being what they were, I was not able to have my doula join us in the hospital.

I am grateful that I gave birth to my two healthy children but after postpartum bleeding, those early days were a real shock to my body and emotional wellness. I did not sleep the first week after bringing my daughter home. Like most new moms, I was anxious and clueless. It was not until my own doula came to the house to help us that I started to see a light at the end of tunnel. That was when I knew I wanted to become a doula.

The jarring experience of birth and postpartum is both magical and
intense. I got started with the desire to help families, especially moms, navigate this new life together.

I am so glad to be able to offer support to families in the Huntsville and Madison area as a Certified Labor Doula, Certified Postpartum and Infant Care Doula, and Certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist through ProDoula.

Meet Your Doula

“Birth is an opportunity to transcend.
To rise above what we are accustomed to,
reach deeper inside ourselves than we are familiar with,
and to see not only what we are truly made of,
but the strength we can access in and through birth."

Marcie Macari
